We are living in a world of fast foods and easy ideas for a quick meal. Meals that are full of calories and unhealthy additives. The holidays are upon us and we asked you what would you do to make your meals, appetizers and parties more healthy. By promoting this contest we received many healthy, nutritious and fun ideas on how to make your holiday meals more healthy. There were numerous, detailed and passionate responses which we would like to share with you. I will try to use a natural seasoning instead of salt. I will search for recipes that the whole family can eat. The young, the old, and the even older members without the fear of what is in the food. I substitute 1/2 the amount of sour cream for yogurt in my dips all year but especially during the holidays. We are going vegan this year! Serve more vegetables and fruit. EXCERISE First of all, I would serve and store in glass instead of plastic. I would try to use fresh ingredients. I would try to use a lot of herbs. Persian foods have a lot of herbs and I think that is important if you truly want to eat healthy. If cooking meat, for example, I would add turmeric. I am going to hold off on the fat and butter as much as I can. I will make fewer treats and concentrate more on a main meal. A meat that will include veggies that are not overloaded with sauces and butter. Let my hubby cook (he lacks my sweet tooth)! We are huge veggie eaters so we always have a huge selection of veggie dishes and dips. We also avoid heavy sweets (pies/cakes etc) for desserts and instead focus on fruit and low fat yogurt dishes. I will incorporate more fruit, and cut down on fat and calories. I'll serve low fat gravy, or perhaps skip it altogether and offer lingonberry sauce instead. Substitute applesauce for butter - tastes great and moist! I will make more recipes from scratch. I will throw in lots of veggies! Even for snacking, have lots of snack veggies such as carrot sticks, celery sticks, broccoli, and cauliflower with dip.
