Vegetarian Wash

What is a Vegetable Wash?

A vegetable wash is a solution specifically designed to wash vegetables. A good vegetable wash should be able to rid vegetables of pesticides, chemical contaminants, animal wastes, dirt, and contaminants from environmental pollutants from automotive exhausts and industry "heavy metals". Some vegetable washes can also be used on fruit.

Why do you Need to Wash your Vegetables?

It is very important to wash your vegetables. According to a 2003 report by the Centers for Disease Control, among those tested for pesticide residues in blood and urine, the average person carried 13 pesticides in his or her body. Food borne diseases cause an estimated:

  • 325,000 serious illnesses
  • 76 million cases of gastrointestinal illness
  • 5,000 deaths each year

Why Water is Not Enough

Water will not wash off pesticides and other agricultural chemicals. Pesticides and other agricultural chemicals are specifically engineered to be "waterproof" so that they are not washed off by rain and irrigation. Many fruits and vegetables are also coated in wax to preserve the quality and appearance of the produce from the fields to your kitchen table.

Studies suggest that some of these chemicals may be toxic to the human body. Pesticides have been linked to cancer, reproductive problems, and neurological disorders. Pesticides can be harmful to children, the elderly, and anyone suffering from a deficient immune system.
