Hitachi UltraVision HDT52 Series 55HDT52 55" Plasma TV

Company Overview

Hitachi was founded in 1910 as an electrical repair shop. Today, it is one of the leading manufacturers in new technology. Hitachi is the oldest member of the Hitachi group and consists of three factories. The oldest of the factories(Yamatte Works) is known as the ancestral home of Hitachi, Ltd. For the last hundred years, Hitachi Ltd has been at the forefront of modern technology.

Plasma Display

Until recently, the superior brightness, faster response time, greater color spectrum, and wider viewing angle of color plasma video displays, when compared with LCD TVs, made plasma TVs one of the most popular forms of display for HDTV flat panel displays.

Improvements in LCD technology have narrowed the technological gap. The lower weight, falling prices, higher available resolution have made LCD TVs more competitive against plasma TVs. LCD TVs also have a lower electrical power consumption.

Plasma displays have a very low-luminance "dark-room" black level. This creates a blackness that people some find more desirable for watching movies and playing video games. The lifetime of the latest generation of plasma displays is estimated at 60,000 hours (or 27 years at 6 hours of use per day) of actual display time.

Product Overview

The Hitachi 55HDT52 scores high marks for its extremely attractive design and excellent feature package. However, it falls a bit short of the competition in image quality, especially when displaying darker material. Image quality is usually usually a strong point of plasma displays.

he Hitachi 55HDT52 is an unusual size at 55’. However, the price is right where it should be in regards to 50’ and 60’ television sets. One of the coolest features of the Hitachi 55HDT52 is the electronic swivel stand that comes with the unit. Using the remote, the consumer can change the viewing angle of the set from their seat. Another awesome feature is the PIP (Picture In Picture). The consumer can watch two pictures at once.
