What is a Surfboard?

A surfboard a long, narrow, rounded board, usually having one or two fins, used for surfing. It is the most essential piece of surfing equipment. Without a surfboard, you cannot surf.

Surfboards are usually hand shaped by professional shapers out of foam and finished with a fiberglass coat.

Types of Surfboards?

There are many different types of surfboards. Some of the most common types are listed below:

  • Shortboard
    • This board is used to perform quick maneuvers on waves.
    • Size of Shortboards are generally from 5'8" to 6'10".
    • Usually has 3 fins.
    • It is the most popular type of surfboard.
    • Also called Thruster
  • Longboard
    • The nose of the Longboard is rounded
    • Usually has a single fin. But they can have more.
    • Also called Malibu
  • Fish
    • Boards are usually between 4'8'' and 6'0''.
  • Gun
    • Used to paddle big waves
    • Usually between 7'2'' in length to over 12'.
