How to Make Friends When You Are a Stay at Home Mom

Many women work at home and care for their home, spouse and children each and every day. For those who pursue this career choice, it is good to know that there are still ways for stay at home moms to make new friends and meet acquaintances. The following will provide some tips for doing so.

Join a Local Gym

If one is a stay at home mom and the kids are in school for the day, a great option for those hoping to meet friends is to sign up for a local gym membership. The benefits of doing so are twofold. Not only will the individual be able to get a good workout, but they will also be able to meet new people at the gym and perhaps form lasting friendships. Attending a gym allows the stay at home mom to get out of the house and meet other people with whom they may share the same interests.

Sign Up for Extracurricular Activities

Aside from joining a local gym, the stay at home mom who is looking to meet new friends should consider signing up for an extracurricular activity. This can be anything from a sport, such as tennis, pilates, yoga, or bowling, to an art class of some sort. There are many extracurricular activities which are hosted by one’s local arts and crafts store, church, community center or bookstore. By signing up for an extracurricular activity, not only will one meet other people but they will meet others who are interested in doing the same sorts of things.

Engage in Parent-Child Activities

By being involved with the children’s various activities, the parents have a chance to mingle as well. Stay at home moms will appreciate the adult company they receive while spending time with their children engaging in parent-child activities. For small kids, library programs are a fantastic way to meet other moms, such as a Toddler Get Together Program at the local library. For the older children, attending soccer games and football games will allow the stay at home mom to be with other adults while watching the children play sports.

Points to Remember

Stay at home moms have arguably one of the most difficult jobs out there. Not only are they “on call” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but they may also lack the necessary adult interaction from time to time. The previously mentioned tips will provide a few ideas for those moms to consider if they are looking to meet new people and make friends while being stay at home moms.
