Helmet

Why are Helmets Important?

Helmets are important because 5 to 10 percent of all ski injuries involves the head. Injuries to the head are among the most devastating and lethal ski accidents.

Helmets will protect you from all head injuries, and they are no guarantee that you won't hurt yourself

Helmets should be worn by both children and adults.

Benefits of Wearing a Helmet?

  1. Helmets protect the brain
    • Most severe head injuries occur from colliding with trees, other stationary objects or the snow.
    • Helmets help to reduce the severity of head injuries by dispersing the brunt of the blow.

What to look for when buying a Helmet?

  1. Size
    • Make sure you buy a helmet that properly fits your head.
  2. Material
    • Most helmets are made of polycarbonate shell, a foam liner and a "comfort liner". The comfort liner is made of wicking fabrics to keep you from getting too warm.
  3. Price
    • Prices can range from $60 to $160.
  4. SNELL RS-98 or ASTM F2040
    • Helmets that have been tested to provide adequate protection will have a sticker inside that says SNELL RS-98 or ASTM F2040.
  5. Snugness
    • The helmet should fit snugly but not be uncomfortable.
    • For optimal protection of your forehead, the helmet should fit just over your eyebrows.
  6. Vents or Airflow Systems
