Mama's Kitchen Dilemmas

Apple Butter Custard Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of milk, scalded
  • 3 cups of apples, peeled, cored and boiled
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup of corn starch
  • 1 3/4 tbsp of butter
  • 1 tsp of vanilla

Directions:

  1. Mash all the ingredients together in a pan.
  2. Bring them to a rolling simmer and reduce the heat.
  3. Stir constantly until the ingredients are thick and well blended.
  4. Serve hot or cold.

 

 

 

Apple Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of tart apples, peeled, cored and boiled
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of crushed clove
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of apple juice
  • 2 tbsp of butter

Directions:

  1. Bring the ingredients to a boil and mash them together.
  2. Reduce the heat and simmer on low for 10 minutes.
  3. Add more apple juice if the sauce begins to burn or is too thick

 

 

 

Banana Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of bananas, mashed
  • 4 tbsp of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of cream
  • 1 1/2 tbsp of flour or cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp of corn syrup

Directions:

  1. Set the bananas aside.
  2. Combine the sugar, cream, flour and corn syrup.
  3. Mix well and bring mixture to a boil.
  4. Reduce the heat and add the bananas.
  5. Simmer on medium-low for 10-15 minutes.
