Jamaican Sorrel and Ginger Drink

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz of ginger, grated
  • 2 ¼ quarts of water
  • 6 tbsp of sugar
  • 7 pimento grains
  • ¾ lb of sorrel

Directions:

  1. Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Pour it over top the ingredients and allow them to steep in the water for 7 hours.
  3. Strain and refrigerate.
  4. Serve over top ice.

 

 

 

Jamaican Rum and Hibiscus Drink

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of dried hibiscus
  • 1 tbsp of ginger, grated
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • rum

Directions:

  1. Pour 7 cups of boiling water over top the hibiscus and ginger.
  2. Allow to set for 6 hours.
  3. Strain and discard the ginger and hibiscus.
  4. Add 1 cup of rum and 1 cup of sugar.
  5. Refrigerate 2 hours.
  6. Stir before serving.

 

 

 

Jamaican Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 3 ½ tbsp of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of nutmeg
  • ½ tsp of cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp of cocoa powder
  • ½ cup of whole milk

Directions:

  1. Add all the powders and sugar to the bottom of a mug.
  2. Heat the milks together and, when scalding, but not boiling, add some of the milk to the powders.
  3. Stir until they dissolve.
  4. Add the remainder of the milk and stir well.
