Nut Rolls


  • 8 C flour
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • small cake of yeast
  • 6 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 C. milk


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Blend flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add shortening and then add beaten eggs.
  4. Dissolve yeast in cold milk and add to dough.
  5. Allow to set in a cool place overnight.
  6. Roll out dough and cut into squares.
  7. Fill each square with nut filling (see recipe below) and shape into small crescents.
  8. Roll in sugar and bake at 350 degrees on a greased cookie sheet for 15-18 minutes.




Nut Filling (for Nut Rolls)


  • 1 lb. Brown sugar
  • 1 lb. Walnuts, ground
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • Cinnamon


  1. Combine nuts, sugar and melted butter.
  2. Add enough hot water to make a spread.
  3. Add cinnamon to taste.

***Can also be filled with purchased fillings such as poppy seed or apricot.
