Candy Cane Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract
- 1/2 tsp of salt
- 1 tsp of baking powder
- 1 tsp of vanilla
- 1 cup of soft butter
- 1 tbsp of red food coloring
- 2 1/2 cups of flour
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add the egg and vanilla.
- Mix the flour, salt and baking powder together and add it to the butter mixture.
- Divide the dough into two parts
- Add the red food coloring to one of the two parts.
- Place the dough in the refrigerator for 3 hours.
- Take tbsp-size scoops from both the red and white dough.
- Roll the red and white dough balls separately into five-inch strips
- Twist the red and white dough balls together, forming them into the shape of a candy cane.
- Bake the cookies in a 375-degree oven for 8-10 minutes.
Molasses Drops
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 cup of flour
- 2 tsp of baking soda
- 1/4 cup of molasses
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- 3/4 cup of shortening
- 1/4 tsp of ground cloves
- 1 tsp of ginger powder
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Combine the egg, shortening, and molasses.
- Mix well.
- Add the brown sugar, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ground cloves, and ginger powder to the egg mixture.
- Mix well.
- Roll the dough into small balls.
- Sprinkle the tops of the dough balls with sugar and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake the dough balls in a 375-degree oven for 11 minutes.
Makes: 3-dozen cookies
