Don't Give Up! I was a preemie and I am doing well

Hi all. I am writing to encourage all mothers, fathers and medical staff to never give up on a preemie.

I was born 68 years ago in a small town in Oklahoma weighing only 6 pounds and 12 inches long. I was put in an incubator and my parents were told not to expect me to survive. I was fed with an eye dropper by a nurse named in my baby book. She came in on her days off so the same person would be feeding me. She reached in and stroked me and I reached out to her with my tiny arms.
My dad came every day and prayed for my survival.

It was months before I came home but I made it! I feel I owe my life to the loving nurse and my praying father.

Except for a minor non verbal learning disability I have no limitations from my early start.

I graduated from college Magna Cum Laude and have a Masters degree as a counselor. I am a happy and grateful woman. Every year I celebrate my birthday in recognition of my miracle survival.
Don't give up. The will to live is strong and love brings strength to all.

I thougt it would be interesting to hear from a preemie who made it despite horrible odds. I pray for all preemies and their families.

Don't give up.

-Rachel
