The Risks of Vaginal Rejuvenation SurgeryVaginal rejuvenation is still relatively new in origin and therefore not a lot of research has been done on any of the long-term effects of undergoing this type of surgery. As with all types of surgeries there are risk facts to consider. The primary risks include such things as excessive bleeding, infection and the risk of scarring and a variety of other post-operative complications common to all surgical procedures. Scarring does seem to be more of a problem with this type of surgery then it does with other types of surgery due to the sensitive nature of it. Although there are only a few nerve endings in the vagina this surgery involves the cutting of some of these nerve endings and for some patients this can result in a semi permanent or sometimes a permanent change in sensation. For some women they will experience a sense of numbness in their vagina making this surgery ineffective because as opposed to improving a woman's sex life it can make it less pleasurable because she feels even less sensation during penetration. Excessive scar tissue will not be obvious because it is on the inside of the body but it can be disastrous for a woman's future sexual relations. To date the long term effects of vaginal rejuvenation surgery are not known but doctors and researchers are concerned about the effects that this surgery could have on the tissues and muscles of the vagina a number of years following the surgery. Studies are currently ongoing in regards to this. Vaginal rejuvenation surgery in the form of laser vagina rejuvenation is performed at a hospital or clinic on an outpatient basis and is done under general anesthesia, which means the patient is asleep during the entire procedure. The procedure generally takes anywhere from one to two hours to complete. The laser version of vaginal rejuvenation generally is less risky than traditional vaginal rejuvenation surgery and involves less of a recuperation period. According to many doctors, the risks connected to vaginal rejuvenation surgery are considerably less than the risks that are associated with giving birth. In a rare number of cases a patient of vagina rejuvenation surgery can experience hemorrhaging or can develop an infection that requires antibiotics or in the most serious of cases will necessitate a second surgery. It is also a rare occurrence but plastic surgeons have been known to nick the bladder or rectum during the surgery causing injury to one or both of the organs. The cost for vaginal rejuvenation surgery varies from plastic surgeon to plastic surgeon. Some charge anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000 while some charge anywhere from $5,500 to $8,500. Women who choose to have vaginal rejuvenation surgery and a labiaplasty at the same time can expect to pay between $9,500 to $10,000. It is important to seriously consider all of the risk factors before making the decision to have the surgery.
