What No One Tells You About Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

Some women who decide to have vaginal rejuvenation surgery also make the decision to have a labiaplasty at the same time to correct irregular or enlarged labial lips. Not only is vaginal rejuvenation geared at tightening the vagina it is also supposed to improve the perineum area. Unfortunately vaginal rejuvenation surgery has its share of critics as some people tout it as being unnecessary. The vaginal rejuvenation procedure brings with it plenty of scar tissue but it unfortunately does not make the body any more youthful. What the surgery does is it alters the size and shape of the vagina but not the nature of it.

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery, which is often performed with a laser and called laser vaginal rejuvenation, is based on a procedure that has been around for many years called vaginoplasty. This age old procedure was undertaken in the past and still commonly is used today to benefit women who suffer from incontinence, which is often caused due to multiple childbirths. Incontinence most likely occurs because of weak muscles that have become a chronic problem. Vaginal rejuvenation surgery tends to be less invasive than other types of surgery.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in the year 2005 there were 793 vaginal rejuvenation surgeries performed and in 2006 this number went up to 1030. These are relatively low figures as vaginal rejuvenation surgery accounts for only 0.08 percent of all cosmetic surgeries that are done on a yearly basis. Vaginal rejuvenation surgery is believed to be the third fastest growing of all surgical procedures as measured between the years 2005 and 2006. This is estimated to be a 30 percent increase from one year to the next.

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery is supposed to improve a person's sex life and some people that have had the surgery are very pleased with the results and others less so. Some physicians argue that a tighter vagina will not make a woman’s sex life better if it was not all right to begin with. In fact often it is the woman's sexual partner who notices a difference and not the patient of the surgery.

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery is very risky because an incision in this area involves cutting nerves and this can result in less sensation and a great deal of scarring. There are not many nerve endings located in the vagina and having vagina rejuvenation surgery can sever nerve endings that can lead to a permanent loss of sensation and scar tissue that can also affect the sensations in the vaginal area. An increase in friction is one advantage of this type of procedure but often the woman is not the one who gets to experience any additional pleasure. It is important to speak with the plastic surgeon at length to determine if you are a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation surgery or not.
