Eating healthy foods is one of the greatest ways you can live healthy and combat developing a disease. Some diseases are genetic and there's not much you can do about that. But others like Diabetes 2, Lung Cancer, and Heart Disease and might be prevented with the proper diet. Below is a picture of a food pyramid. The Food Pyramid illustrates the research-based food guidance system developed by USDA and supported by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
What is a serving? Meat and Meat Alternatives: 2oz. to 3 oz. cooked, lean, meat, poultry or fish; 2 eggs; 7oz. tofu; 1 cup cooked legumes (dried beans or peas); 1/2 cup nuts or seeds. Milk and Dairy: 1 cup raw leafy vegetables; 1 1/2 cup ice cream or frozen yogurt; 1 1/2 oz. cheese. Vegetables: 1 cup raw leafy vegetables; 1/2 cup cooked or raw chopped vegetables. Fruit: 1 medium fruit (about 1 cup); 1/2 to 3/4 cup juice. Bread and cereal: 1 slice bread or 1 English muffin; 1 medium muffin; 1/2 bagel; 1 cup cold cereal; 1/2 cup cooked cereal; 1/2 cup pasta.
