Cash, Change, and Credit Card Tips Spend cash instead of your credit card. You tend to spend less and keep track of what you spend. SAVE LOOSE CHANGE IN A JAR! Don’t leave home without it -- credit card, cash, or barter. Combine your cable, internet and telephone service. Companies now offer combined services that not only cost less, but offer the convenience of a single bill. Never give exact change. Then save all your coins and cash them in whenever you need a boost. Save 10% OF YOUR PAY CHECK. I always use cash instead of debit or credit when I go shopping so I know how much I spend and I don't overdo it. When you write a check for groceries, round it off to the next $10, or $20; or get cash back, and stash it somewhere in your house. Don't touch it unless it is absolutely necessary. Never charge food and gas on credit cards. If you don't pay off your balance each month, you're paying interest on stuff that's long gone. Put a certain amount of money aside each week, whatever you can afford and stop using your credit cards. Empty all your change each night into a savings jar. It adds up quickly. Leaving cash in clothing that will not be taken to the dry cleaners is a way to have extra money hidden away.
