Healthful Gift Giving

Healthful gift giving is a great way to encourage friends and family to eat healthful foods. Many people want to eat healthful foods, but don't know what kinds of foods to buy or cook.

If you plan on attending a pot-luck soon, why not bake some high-fiber, whole-grain loaves of bread. Instead of giving a friend a bag of butter cookies, give a bag of heart-healthy omega-3 rich walnuts containing recipes for walnut-infused pancakes and veggie burgers.

Healthful Gift Giving Ideas (Food)

  • Fruit Basket containing fruits rich in anti-oxidants.
  • Fitness and Health magazines are great additions to food baskets
  • Clear-glass apothecary jar or pretty soup tureen filled with all the colorful dry ingredients needed to make a multi-bean soup.
  • Variety of dried, vegetable-based pastas, such as spinach linguini or carrot fettuccini and a few jars of low-sodium tomato or cheese sauce.
  • A person who exercises regularly might appreciate a gift basket full of nutrition bars, sports drinks and energy gels.
  • A mom with small kids may appreciate a gift basket with healthful meals that take less than 30 minutes to make.
  • A sampling of cooking or salad oils that are low in saturated fat. Wrap in a pretty box of canola oil, olive oil and all-purpose vegetable oil.
