Let's Reuse Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless, odorless and non-poisonous gas. Carbon dioxide is formed by combustion of carbon and in the respiration of living organisms. It is considered a greenhouse gas.

Carbon dioxide can be sourced from power plants' exhaust and used in constructive ways

Carbon dioxide is already being used for several things, including:

  • The fizz in soft drinks
  • As dry ice it keeps foods frozen for shipment
  • As a compressed gas for some pneumatic tools
  • To fill bicycle tires
  • In greenhouses to enhance plant growth
  • In some kinds of fire extinguishers
  • To remove the caffeine from coffee
  • In oil wells to enhance oil recovery

Carbon dioxide statistics

  • An average car in the United States driven 10,000 miles in one year releases 5.5 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
  • Carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere for approximately 100 years.
  • Carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere by photosynthesis in plants and by dissolving in water, especially on the surface of oceans.
