Tips on how to properly water your plants

Watering tips:

  • Be careful, too much watering will cause root rot.
  • Group 'like plants' together. Day lilies, sedums, ornamental grasses and lamium would do well together because their water needs are similar.
  • Plants need to be watered deeply and thoroughly, not shallowly and frequently.
  • Fill a plastic container, like a milk jug, with holes punched in the bottom to allow water to seep directly to a plant's roots.
  • Newly planted plants, shrubs and trees, need to be thoroughly watered until their root system is well established.
