Ergonomic keyboard tray

What is an Ergonomic Keyboard Tray?

An ergonomic keyboard tray is a tray specifically designed to adjust the height and angle of a keyboard in order to fit the person or allow posture change.

The ergonomic keyboard tray will allow a better viewing arrangement by moving the person back from the screen or work surface.

Usually, the best height for the keyboard is at elbow height or lower. However, nearly any height is acceptable if it is comfortable.

The angle of the tray/keyboard is important also. The tray should position the keyboard to be at approximately the same angle as your forearm.

Possible Drawbacks of an Ergonomic Keyboard Tray

  • Ergonomic keyboard trays will not benefit everyone. Some of the possible drawbacks are:
  • Reduced knee clearance.
  • Only enough room for a keyboard, forcing a long reach to use a mouse.
  • Keyboard trays can be adjusted too low, too high, or at the wrong angle, causing bent wrists.

Features to look for when buying an Ergonomic Keyboard Tray:

  • Area for a mouse
  • Angle adjustability
  • Area for a wrist rest
  • Duration of warranty
