The range of services offered by an attorney is one of the important factors that should be taken into consideration in choosing a divorce lawyer. Decide on this before you start interviewing.

Full service versus limited representation

• Full service representation involves all the tedious work like research, paperwork, and calculations of taxes. Limited representation renders limited-scope legal assistance.

Budget

• If you don’t mind allocating a substantial budget for attorney’s fee, then a full-service attorney might be best for you.  Make sure that you really have the budget as it becomes more costly to hire another full-service lawyer after being unable to pay your lawyer in full.

Substantial Properties/Custody War

• If your assets are at stake or you and your ex-spouse are fighting over custody rights, you might want to consider hiring a full-service lawyer.

Knowledge about the law

• Hiring a full-service lawyer frees you from having to research, study and familiarize yourself about divorce law. This expertise does come at a price. The other option is to make the divorce easier and less expensive by familiarizing yourself about the nature of divorce. You can also find local, state and national organizations that are willing to help.

While it is true that a full service lawyer can be your best option, this can only become a reality if you have the money and are willing to pay by the thousands. Whether you choose to hire a full-service lawyer or be content with limited representation, the most important thing to do is to determine what will work for you. Either you earn more money to afford full representation, or obtain limited representation and do a little work yourself.
