My personal battle with Migraines My name is Holli Brookshire, and I have been dealing with migraines since the age of 8. When I was young my migraines were severe, but once I was at the point of throwing up the headache seemed to dissipate. I had them quite frequently for what seemed to be no apparent reason. At the time I lived in Phoenix, Arizona and the only trigger I could think of would be the heat. As a child, I was indoors because playing outside in the heat would bring one on. As I got older, I noticed something I found rather odd. My migraines were not only less frequent, but became much more severe. Now, when I get a migraine, throwing up only makes it worse. Now, I have at least 12 hours of dry heaves. I underwent a CT scan in 1988, but nothing showed up. I was given a medication called Inderal which my father was also taking for his heart. I have been on different medications such as Inderol, Imetrex, and Midrin and nothing seems to work. I do not have food triggers such as red wine or certain cheese's I have been to numerous emergency rooms because of migraines, receiving shots of demerol and visterol. So far, that seems to be the only thing that helps. My mother had terrible headaches and I understand that they run in the family. I am now 37 years old and even though I do not get these headaches nearly as often, when I do they absolutely debilitate me. I do not get auroras like some people do. Nobody seems to know what to tell me, and when I get these headaches, not only do I miss work, activities, etc but for the next 2-3 days, I feel absolutely miserable. If anybody has any suggestions (because heaven knows I've tried just about everything) I would be more than glad to hear from you. You can email me at hollib1143@email.com
