Headaches and More

Where do I start?  I am 37.  I began suffering from migraines after my second child was born ( I was 26). I had a tubal ligation at the time of the c-section.

I have yet to determine exactly what causes my migraines. In my book, everything does. I have them during menstruation. I have them when a front comes through. I have them if the pollen count is high. I have them weekly. If I go ten days without one, I celebrate.

When I do have a migraine, I end up in the local ER getting a demerol/phenegran shot and getting a lecture from the nurse as to the frequency of my headaches. I go through the usual explanation of what all causes my headaches.  Unless they suffer from migraines, they do not understand.  Before it is over, I end up being made to feel like a freak and a junky. I pray for a cure, but nothing has worked yet.

I am on inderal and neurotin daily plus imitrex (not more than 4 months as prescribed, and I always take the 4).  My doctor is trying, but the headaches are not subsiding. I have also had a CAT-scan which showed nothing (7 yrs ago).  I am truly at my wits end.

It affects my work, my home life, my family life (I have 2 children-16 & 11 & married), and my social life. My family is very understanding, but it makes them sad to see me in pain so often.

I spoke to a local lady yesterday who undergoes frequent migraines also.  She told me she has quit going to get the shots because she got tired of being made to feel so humiliated.  My doctor did tell me that once I go through menopause, the migraines should be less frequent; I can't live like this for another 10-15 years!
