Qigong Meditation Techniques

Qigong meditation is a very useful tool for both physical and mental health. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners will often teach or prescribe qigong meditation to treat a wide variety of issues.

The main purpose of qigong meditation is to control the flow of Qi. Over time, mastering the mediation techniques will help the patient store and build up Qi. Lao Zi, an ancient master of Chinese medicine and philosophy, prescribed qigong meditation to help treat both serious and minor ailments.  He understood that Qi was a vital life energy that must flow freely. When Qi is blocked or obstructed the result is either physical or mental illness

Poses, Tai Chi, and Other Techniques

As with many types of exercise and mediation, there are still and standing forms that must be mastered in order to reap the benefits.  The horse stance and bow stance are two ways you can stand while practicing Qigong meditation.  If you prefer to sit you can use the lotus pose, the half lotus pose, or a pose known as “straddle the crane”. These are just a few of the poses beginner's can try if they want to begin to feel the positive, physical, and mental effects of Qigong meditation.

The moving form of Qigong meditation is called Tai Chi. Tai Chi involves a sequence of movements.  The combination of these sequential movements and proper breathing will open up the passageways so that Qi can move freely through your body.

When practicing Qigong meditation, it is also important to place the tongue on the roof of the mouth and keep the chin up. This helps to facilitate a smooth flow of energy.

Yogic breathing, chanting mantras, and visualization methods such as guided imagery are various types of techniques that may be included while practicing Qigong meditation. 

Holistic Effects of Practicing Qigong Meditation

In traditional Chinese medicine there are four levels of wellbeing for the body as well as the mind. The four levels are physical health, emotional balance, mental clarity and spiritual integration. All four are enhanced through the practice of Qigong meditation.
