What is an Energy Bar?

An energy bar is a food that contains carbohydrates, protein and other supplements to help replenish nutrients used during vigorous exercise and sporting events. Most bars are around 70% carbohydrates, 20% protein, and 10% or less of fat by calories.

Energy bars are available in a variety of flavors and potencies. Never try an energy bar for the first time during a race. Eat energy bars while you are training for a race to avoid stomach problems or adverse bodily reactions.

Do not drink a sports drink after eating an energy bar. This can slow down the absorption of carbs and cause dehydration.

  • dried apricots
  • bagels

How to pick an energy bar that is best for you?

There are many different brands of energy bars. Make sure you get an energy bar that works best for you by trying different brands, flavors and potencies.

Also, ask your fitness trainer and/or doctor if you need them.
